HSA PTO meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 10 . We would like to see more parents’ participation in the meeting. It is going to be held in the school cafeteria at 6:30 pm.
HSA-LAREDO GOT FIRST PLACE IN REGIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD AT TAMIU
Harmony Science Academy has participated in Regional Science Olympiad competition at TAMIU on Saturday, March 6. Our students have competed in 10 different categories. Disease Detectives, Ecology, Compute This, Meteorology, Elevated Bridge, Fossils, Anatomy, Trajectory, Dynamic Planet and Solar System. Our students got 5 first places, 1 second place and 2 third places. Our students will represent our school in the State Finals at T&M College Station on April 23-24. We would like to congratulate our students and teachers.
Harmony Science Academy has participated in the regional science fair competition at University of Texas at Brownsville. Five students represented our school in the science fair. Ayeesha Mohammed 6B got second place in the competition and she will represent our school in the State Wide Science Fair Competition on April 9-12. Also Ivan Mota 7B and Nikolay Nedev 6B got 5th places in the competition. Aren Raymond has received special award from South Texas Energy Partnership. We would like to congratulate our students and parents.
We have officially begun our Chocolate sales campaign. This year, we are fundraising for computers in the classrooms, for the digital school sign and all the field trips for rest of the semester. It is our goal at HSA-Laredo to have computers in all of our classrooms. These computers will be used for accelerated reader, research, technology, etc. It is our goal for each student to commit themselves to selling 2 boxes (50 bars per box-2 box per family). We will give the chocolates to the students with the signature of parents or students and they will be responsible for turning in the money to the front office. Parents can get as many boxes as they want if they pay the amount when they get the chocolates. There is no restriction for getting many chocolates. The deadline to turn in all the money is April 5, Monday. We need a lot of parent support to reach our goal. This fundraising is also a contest. HSA is having a school wide contest. The homeroom which sells the most boxes will get a free lock-in at the school (free pizza, soda, movie and lots of fun)
HSA-LAREDO ROBOTICS TEAM IS NUMBER ONE IN SOUTH TEXAS
Harmony Science Academy Middle School Robotics team got the first place in the South Texas First Lego Leauge Finals at Houston, February 27, Saturday. Our team got championship award, best performance award and best design award in the finals. Our team is the number one team among 80 teams all around South Texas. We believe this is the first time in Laredo, a middle school robotics team got a first place in the FLL robotics competition. We would like to congratulate our robotics team, Mr. Turan, Mr. Santos and all the parents who helped us. Go Tiger Paws!!!
The Texas Education Agency has developed TAKS Study Guides to help students strengthen the TEKS-based skills that are taught in class and tested on TAKS. The Guides are designed for students to use on their own or for students and families to work through together. Concepts are presented in a variety of ways that will help students review the information and skills they need to be successful on the TAKS.
Harmony Science Academy has arranged a business breakfast for the business people in Laredo. The purpose of the breakfast is to establish a partnership with the Laredo community. This partnership will address the skills that our students need to be successful after graduation. These skills will be the basis for our new high school graduation requirements. Thus, Harmony Science Academy - Laredo is opening its door to the businesses in the area by sending our students to the establishments. We would like for them to serve as a volunteer in the Laredo community. This will certainly provide an opportunity for our students to gain experience before they join the workforce. If you have a business or member of an organization, you can come to the breakfast on March 10, 8:30 am at Harmony Science Academy-Laredo.

Harmony Science Academy has scheduled for the open house dates for the new applicants. We will give more information about our school system and answer parent's question regarding our school. We are planning to give a school tour for the new applicants also. The Deadline for next year application is March 31. Here is the open house schedule:

HSA 2009-2010 year book is on the way. Place your order as soon as possible. The deadline for year book order is on Monday, March 22. The order form is attached to the Monday mail. You can return the order form to the front office. The price for the year book is $40.
