2014 Basketball Shoot-Out!

The shoot-out will start at 4:15PM and will end at around 6:15PM. We will have Boys vs Boys & Girls vs Girls. Grades 6-12 can participate in the shoot-out.

HSA Journalism Recruitment!

Are you interested in being an editor, reporter, photographer, videographer, sound engineer, or graphic designer? Harmony Science Academy Laredo is currently accepting online applications from 9th Grade - 12th Grade students. Participants will learn how to write journalistically while building confidence as writers. Students will conduct interviews, make independent decisions, and learn to think on their feet. They will explore related campus topics and report on sports, fine arts, different career paths, perspectives and interconnectedness of the world.

Harmony Science Academy- Laredo is excited to congratulate our Volleyball Team for having a successful overall 3-2 season. Thanks to Coach Figueroa, the team learned to, “set the ball correctly and accurately, swerving with velocity and angle, and bumping/digging the volleyball softly and accurately.” These techniques paid off throughout this season! Congratulations, once again, to the volleyball team, and Mr.Figueroa for his hard work and dedication.

2014 Senior Portraits!

Students must call Peter Pan Studios at 723-4642 to schedule the appointments. The hours available are 10am, 11am, 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm. Up to 4 students can be scheduled per hour. The deposit is $40 due the day of the sitting, which covers Cap & Gown and Formal. Attached is a price list about our sizes and packages. October Student of the Month

Congratulations to 8th Grader of the Month Isai Jimenez for being chosen outstanding 8th grader for the month of October! He represented Harmony Science Academy at the Laredo Civic Center on October 1st, 2014. 8th Grader of the month sponsored by KGNS and the Laredo Police Department. We are very proud of Isai and all of your accomplishments. Congratulations Isai Jimenez!

2014 Anti Bullying Event!

Attention students, please attend this wonderful Anti-Bullying Event on October 22, from 6:00pm-7:30pm, at the Civic Center. Students will receive 15 community service hours. In order to register your community service hours at school, please bring the certificate that is given to you to school, make a copy of the certificate, and give the copy of your service hours to your respective counselor. This is an excellent opportunity for community service hours.

Pennies for Tennies!

Students can pay $2.00 to wear free dress on Friday, October 17thth. All funds raised will be donated to the Women's City Club for pennies for tennies.

2014 Abby Candle Fundraiser!

Items with money needs to be turned in by Friday, October 31st. Before any web orders can be placed for the students, they will need to create a profile on our website using the steps described in the attached Online Ordering Reminder document (that is included in each student’s brochure packet). Students must register in order for customers to receive the free shipping option. After the students register, customers will be able to enter the student’s Seller ID to give credit to the student and your organization for their order and have the option of free shipping within the time frame of your brochure sale. Each student, once registered, will be able send emails to their friends and family about online ordering directly from our website. Once they login, there will be a link on the left-hand side that says “Email Friends & Family”. They will click this, type in the email addresses of their contacts and can easily send multiple emails at once.

Red Ribbon Week!

To show our support in the fight against drugs and to raise awareness, HSA - Laredo will be having Red Ribbon Week Monday, October 27th - Friday, October 31st.

Monday, 10/27 – I “mustache” you not to do drugs: Students will wear or paint on a mustache. Students must wear complete school uniform.

Tuesday, 10/28 – “Hair’s” to a Drug-Free Life: Students can have crazy hair. Students must wear complete school uniform.

Wednesday, 10/29 – Team Up Against Drugs: Students are able to wear a sports shirt. Students must wear uniform pants.

Thursday, 10/30 - Sock It to Drugs: Wear silly socks! (With school uniform)

Friday, 10/31 – Wear Red: Students will be allowed to wear any red appropriate shirt with blue jeans.

PLEASE NOTE: No tights, leggings, or skinny pants of any kind allowed. No items depicting weapons. No face masks or "horror" costumes allowed. If a student's costume is deemed inappropriate, parents will be contacted to pick their student up from school.

2014 6th Grade "Book It" Program!

Harmony Science Academy-Laredo has been approved as a “Book It” program participant for 6th grade students. Thanks to the partnership with Pizza Hut and Accelerated Reader program, the 6th grade English department is proud to offer students that meet their monthly AR reading goals a gift certificate for a free personal pan pizza. This year, thanks to the Google Chromebook grant, students are allowed to test during their D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) and after school until 4:30 p.m. We ask for your support in encouraging silent reading time at home and know that, together, this will be an amazing school year!

Notice of Public Hearing


Harmony Public Schools will hold a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014 in the Multipurpose Room, 9321 W Sam Houston Pkwy S., Houston, TX 77099.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Harmony Public Schools FIRST ratings based on School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas), the Texas Education Agency’s system developed to monitor and improve the management of the District’s financial resources.

Tie a Ribbon for Breast Cancer Awareness!

HSA Laredo's School Beautification & Spirit Committee will be hosting a Cancer Awareness Ribbon Tying Ceremony in the month of October. Students, Staff, Parents, and Supporters may purchase pieces of pink ribbon to support victims and survivors of Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness for $1 each throughout the month, then during the ceremony, they will tie their ribbons into a pattern onto the fence that surrounds our campus. Multiple ribbons may be purchased & personalized. Please be sure to purchase your ribbons from Mrs. Halfhill, Coach Figueroa, Mrs. Quintero or Mrs. DeLeon in Rooms 149 or 150.

Spooky Jean Day!

On Friday, October 31st, students can wear jeans and a Halloween shirt. Students need to meet dress code guidelines. If you have any questions about dress code guidelines, please see Mrs. Hernandez or Mr. Soto.

Pink Thursdays!

During the month of October, students can pay $2 to wear jeans with a pink t-shirt on Thursday. All funds raised will be donated to Pink to Do.

HSA Visits US National Guard!

With funds raised from students during freedom week, and with the assistance of Lowe's Home Improvement, we were able to donate a BBQ pit to our soldiers and veterans at the TEXAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD - LAREDO, TX.

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is the only competition program of its kind, with live, in-person events in all 50 states, as well as U.S. territories and schools worldwide through the U.S. Department of Defense and State Department.

HSA Bottle Rocket Competition!

HSA Laredo Science Department is sponsoring a Bottle Rocket Competition. The competition will be held on Friday, October 24th, at the HSA Soccer Field. We highly encourage all students to participate in this competition. Every student with an eligible bottle rocket will have a Free Dress Pass for Thursday October 30th.


1) The aim of the competition is to reach the goal with the Bottle Rocket to Soccer Goal.

2) Safety is our priority so No sharp tipped Bottle Rockets.

3) Participants will stay outside of the field until they are invited inside.

4) Participants must wear goggles during the launch. Goggles will be provided by the Science Department.

5) Students needs to register no later than Monday, October 20th.

2015 National Merit Scholarship Participants!

Our two seniors, Ricardo Guajardo and Tristan Melendez, met the requirements to enter 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. With a Selection Index score of 201 or above, these high performers have shown outstanding academic potential. Of some 1.5 million program entrants, each of these students is among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants who are being recognized in the fall semester of 2014-2015 Academic year. We are genuinely happy for this outstanding success of our students. Congratulations! You tigers rock!

2014 Lunch Application!

Dear Parents and Guardian,

We encourage all families to complete an application, especially if your child was on free or reduced breakfast and lunch for the last school year. Previous lunch status does not automatically carry over to the new school year, a new application needs to be submitted yearly to the school to be considered for free or reduced lunch. If the school does not receive a lunch application for your child by October 1st, your child's lunch status will become "PAID" and you will be responsible for the incurred lunch balance.You can either mail or submit the application in person to school's front office during the campus' hours.

Attention parents! Students will not be allowed to be picked up after 3:10. You will have to wait until classes end at 3:45. Only in an extreme emergency will the student be released to the parent during class session.
